Taxi Service Contract for Cruise Passenger Pick-Ups

Objective:

To ensure a smooth, efficient, and pleasant experience for cruise passengers while maintaining high professionalism and service at Port Charlottetown. All taxi operators must adhere to these procedures and policies to ensure safety, reliability, and customer satisfaction.


Policy Mandates for Taxi Operators


1. Customer Service and Professionalism
  • Kindness and Courtesy: Operators must always treat passengers with respect and courtesy. This includes offering assistance with luggage and always maintaining a polite demeanor.
  • No Rejection of Requests: Operators must accept all ride requests, regardless of distance. All passengers, whether traveling short or long distances, must be treated with equal respect and priority.
  • Driver Behavior: Aggressive or inappropriate behavior toward passengers, other drivers, or Port Charlottetown staff will not be tolerated. Any form of harassment, discrimination, or unsafe conduct will result in immediate suspension or revocation of privileges.
2. General Knowledge Requirements
  • Knowledge of Prince Edward Island: Operators are required to have a general understanding of Prince Edward Island, including its geography, main tourist attractions, and key destinations such as:
    • Charlottetown (including the downtown area)
    • Cavendish (home to Green Gables)
    • Summerside
    • Confederation Bridge
    • Local restaurants, shopping districts, and cultural landmarks.
  • Key Destination Knowledge: Operators must be able to suggest common points of interest to passengers and provide them with informed recommendations about popular destinations, local events, and points of interest.
3. Pickup Zone Regulations
  • Designated Pickup Zone: Only two taxis are allowed at the designated pickup zone at any given time. Operators must park in an orderly manner and avoid blocking other vehicles.
  • Congregating Prohibited: Taxis must not congregate or queue unnecessarily in the pickup zone. Operators must remain in their vehicles and wait for passengers to approach.
  • Designated Waiting Zone: Taxis waiting to enter the designated pickup zone must always remain with the vehicle in Parking Lot A.
4. Fare Pricing
  • Transparent and Fair Pricing: Operators are expected to follow the prescribed fare structure for the region and the rates set from the Port. Pricing should be transparent and in line with local fare regulations. Passengers should be informed about the pricing structure upon request, and fares should be charged according to the agreed-upon rates.
Port Rates: Flat-Rate Destinations
  • Downtown Charlottetown Zone (Including Basilica, Victoria Park, Queen Street) – $8
  • Walmart – $10
  • Charlottetown Airport – $20
  • North River – $24
  • Victoria by the Sea – $75
  • Confederation Bridge – $112
  • Other Destinations – $2.25 per km
