Taxi Permit Application

Section 1 ~ Taxi Responsibilities

The aforementioned taxi driver agrees to the following conditions in order to be allowed access to Port Charlottetown in order to pick-up disembarking cruise passengers:

• A. All taxi drivers on Port Charlottetown property must have displayed, at all times, their ID badge.
• B. To line up in a single line and load passengers on a first come first serve basis regardless of distance or fare.
• C. To take each passenger to the requested destination, regardless of the distance.
• D. To show a valid driver’s license, car license and taxi license with copies to accompany this signed agreement for Port Charlottetown’s files.
• E. To be able to produce upon request these licenses to authorized staff of the Port Charlottetown at any time.
• F. To follow the set rate of $8.50 for the first passenger + $1.00 per each additional passenger for downtown runs as per the City of Charlottetown bylaws.
• G. Taxis are not to solicit private tours, but should a private tour be requested by passengers or crew, the driver agrees to charge a flat rate of $90/hour.
• H. To act as a professional driver and ambassador of the Island.
• I. Provide a clean, smoke-free vehicle for transportation.

Section 2 ~ Port Charlottetown’s Responsibilities

Port Charlottetown is obligated to provide disembarking cruise passengers with the following service:

• A. To ensure that cruise ship passengers to Charlottetown are provided with fast, courteous taxi service.
• B. To ensure that all taxi drivers are licensed and insured.
• C. To ensure that all drivers have a signed contract with Port Charlottetown, copies of required licenses on file as per above, and ID badges are displayed at all times.

Please note:

• If these regulations are not followed or valid complaints are lodged, the driver will be reported to their taxi company and will be suspended from pick-up from the port for the remainder of 2023 cruise ship season.
• Circumstances may require last-minute changes to the layout. In addition, Taxi operators will not be permitted to enter the Independent tour operator area which is located in parking lot B.
• Taxi Permits will be processed weekly on Thursday with pick-up every Monday between 9 am - 12 pm
